Job Overview:
We are seeking an experienced and analytical Compensation and Benefits Specialist to join our Human Resources team. This remote position requires a strategic thinker with a deep understanding of compensation structures and benefit programs, as well as the ability to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements. The ideal candidate will be skilled at developing and managing compensation strategies, performing job evaluations, and administering benefits that attract and retain talent.
As a Compensation and Benefits Specialist, you will play a pivotal role in maintaining competitive and equitable pay structures, ensuring employee satisfaction with benefit offerings, and fostering a culture of transparency and fairness. Your work will directly impact the organization's ability to recruit, retain, and engage high-performing employees.
Key Responsibilities:
- Compensation Strategy and Analysis:
- Develop, implement, and maintain compensation policies, procedures, and strategies that align with the organization’s objectives and culture.
- Perform regular benchmarking and market analysis to ensure competitive pay structures.
- Conduct job evaluations to determine appropriate compensation levels for new and existing roles.
- Analyze internal and external pay equity to ensure fairness and compliance with all legal regulations, including the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).
- Recommend adjustments to compensation plans as needed to ensure competitiveness within the industry and geographic regions.
- Provide compensation forecasts, budgeting, and analytics to leadership teams.
- Benefits Program Design and Management:
- Design and manage employee benefit programs, including health insurance, retirement plans, wellness initiatives, and other offerings that promote employee well-being.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of existing benefit programs and propose changes or enhancements to meet employee needs and preferences.
- Research and recommend new benefits that align with current market trends and employee demands.
- Manage relationships with benefit vendors, ensuring the delivery of high-quality service and cost-effectiveness.
- Oversee the open enrollment process for all employee benefits, providing necessary communication and support to employees.
- Handle all benefit-related questions, claims, and issues, ensuring timely and accurate resolutions.
- Regulatory Compliance and Audits:
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations related to compensation and benefits, including tax laws, health and safety regulations, and labor standards.
- Stay up to date with changes in legislation and recommend necessary adjustments to policies and procedures.
- Conduct internal audits to ensure data accuracy, compliance with compensation policies, and appropriate benefit enrollment and administration.
- Manage compliance reporting and ensure the timely submission of necessary documents for programs such as 401(k) audits, COBRA administration, and the Affordable Care Act (ACA) filings.
- Employee Communication and Training:
- Develop clear and concise communications regarding compensation and benefits to ensure employees understand their pay and benefits packages.
- Provide training to HR staff and management teams on compensation processes, pay policies and benefit offerings.
- Assist employees in understanding their total compensation package, including how to maximize the benefits offered by the organization.
- Regularly gather employee feedback on benefit offerings and suggest improvements based on feedback.
- Collaboration and Partnership:
- Partner with HR leadership, department managers, and finance teams to ensure alignment between compensation strategies and business objectives.
- Collaborate with talent acquisition teams to develop competitive salary offers for new hires.
- Work closely with the payroll team to ensure accurate salary and benefit disbursement.
- Advise and guide management on compensation trends, policies, and regulatory issues.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Finance, or a related field.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in compensation and benefits, preferably in a corporate or consulting environment.
- Strong knowledge of compensation practices, market trends, and job evaluation methodologies.
- Experience administering benefits programs, including health insurance, retirement plans, and wellness initiatives.
- Thorough understanding of federal, state, and local compensation and benefits laws and regulations.
- Strong analytical and quantitative skills, with the ability to interpret data and make strategic decisions.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to explain complex compensation and benefits issues in a clear, understandable way.
- Experience with compensation software and HRIS systems is preferred.
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Certification such as Certified Compensation Professional (CCP) or Certified Benefits Professional (CBP) is a plus, but not required.
