Key Responsibilities
- Oversee AWS RDS environments for MySQL, PostgreSQL, SQL Server, and Aurora, maintaining database health and peak performance.
- Track cloud database usage, availability, and security using CloudWatch, CloudTrail, and tailored monitoring tools.
- Refine database configurations to strike a balance between high availability, data consistency, and operational costs.
- Design and manage effective backup plans, restoration workflows, and disaster recovery routines.
- Utilize Infrastructure-as-Code and automation tools (such as CloudFormation and Terraform) along with scripting to streamline database operations.
- Roll out patches and upgrades with minimal interruption, strengthening database reliability and security.
- Partner with developers and DevOps on schema design, data migration, and query optimization projects.
- Perform security reviews, audit user activity, and take steps to defend confidential data.
- Keep thorough documentation on procedures, change logs, and best practices to support compliance and collaboration.
- Respond promptly to incidents, dig into root causes, and implement process improvements for the future.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- A degree in computing, information systems, or another technology-related area—or comparable practical experience in the field.
- 3+ years of AWS RDS administration in a remote work setup.
- Knowledge of AWS VPC, IAM, KMS encryption, and cloud networking.
- Expertise in database security, backup/recovery, and monitoring for integrity.
- Scripting skills (Bash, Python, PowerShell) for automating tasks.
- Familiarity with Infrastructure-as-Code to build and maintain scalable solutions.
- Analytical approach to interpreting monitoring data and enhancing performance.
- Clear, concise communicator with a firm grasp of documentation.
- Eagerness to stay updated with new AWS and database trends.
Preferred Skills
- AWS Database, SysOps, or Solutions Architect certification.
- Hands-on with multi-AZ, cross-region, or hybrid/multi-cloud environments.
- Familiar with Azure SQL, Google Cloud SQL, or other public cloud platforms.
- Experience with DevOps workflows, CI/CD, Docker, or Kubernetes.
- Background in supporting remote, cross-functional teams.
