Remote Piping Drafter
Description
Remote Piping Drafter
Annual Salary: $68,694
Shape the Backbone of Modern Infrastructure – From Anywhere
Step into a role where your technical eye and problem-solving abilities truly matter. As a Remote Piping Drafter, you bring vital engineering concepts to life, transforming hand sketches, specifications, and ideas into detailed digital drawings that drive real-world construction, energy, and manufacturing projects. Your efforts ensure that pipelines, mechanical layouts, and industrial facilities operate safely and efficiently, powering progress around the world without the need for commuting or being tied to a single location.
Why This Role Matters
Every structure that relies on moving fluids or gases—from refineries and water treatment plants to pharmaceutical facilities—needs expertly drafted piping systems. The accuracy and clarity of your work lay the groundwork for everything from worker safety to project profitability. You’ll be at the center of a project’s lifecycle, influencing everything from early design through to completion and long-term maintenance.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare detailed piping layouts, isometric drawings, and pipe support details for large-scale industrial and mechanical projects.
- Review and interpret markups, P&IDs, and engineering documentation, translating them into accurate 2D and 3D CAD models.
- Utilize software tools such as AutoCAD Plant 3D, Navisworks, and SolidWorks to develop and refine drawings.
- Identify potential design clashes and resolve them early in the design process.
- Coordinate remotely with engineers, designers, and project managers to ensure alignment at every stage.
- Maintain strict version control and document management for all project deliverables.
- Incorporate applicable industry standards, pipe specifications, and code requirements (such as ASME, ANSI, and API)
- Produce fabrication-ready drawings that contractors and vendors can rely on
- Communicate technical concepts during virtual project reviews and design meetings.
Essential Skills & Experience
- At least 3 years’ experience in piping design, drafting, or a similar discipline in sectors like oil & gas, energy, or industrial construction
- Strong proficiency in industry-standard software such as AutoCAD Plant 3D, SmartPlant, or MicroStation
- Deep understanding of piping layout principles, mechanical components, and industrial plant systems
- Comfortable working with P&ID schematics, utility plans, and process layouts
- Up-to-date knowledge of material selection, pipe supports, and fabrication methods
- Exceptional attention to detail—able to spot minor errors that could have a significant impact downstream
- Skilled at communicating technical information and collaborating with team members across time zones
- Driven, self-motivated, and able to excel in a fully remote, autonomous work environment
Work Environment & Team Culture
- 100% remote position—work from any location with a secure, high-speed internet connection
- Flexible hours: focus on what matters, with no rigid schedule
- Open, collaborative, and supportive digital culture; regular feedback, virtual meetings, and knowledge sharing are the norm
- A diverse team that values respect, accountability, and transparent communication
- Encouragement for professional growth through online training, mentorship, and regular upskilling opportunities
Tools & Technology You’ll Use
- Industry-leading CAD and BIM platforms (AutoCAD Plant 3D, SmartPlant, Navisworks, SolidWorks)
- Cloud-based document management and workflow tracking
- Secure version control systems to protect your work and intellectual property
- Access to a broad digital library and up-to-date technical resources
What Makes You Stand Out
- Diploma or degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology, Drafting, or a related field
- Demonstrated experience handling complex piping projects, including clash detection and drawing coordination
- Knowledge of fabrication and construction methods relevant to process piping, utilities, and industrial systems
- Proactive approach to identifying and resolving technical issues—before they become problems on site
- Natural collaborator who values input, responds positively to feedback, and enjoys building solutions as part of a team.
- Reliable, organized, and ready to set your own pace in a remote setting
Salary, Benefits & Growth
- Competitive salary: $68,694 per year
